Why You Need Video Surveillance Systems to Help Protect Your Home
Home security has become very high tech recently. This easy to use equipment means that video surveillance systems can be very easily set up in a matter of hours, so that you and your home are protected. If you choose to install video security systems in your home, you have distinct advantages over homeowners who don't choose this kind of protection, for several reasons:
They can deter crime
It's relatively well known that the simple presence of a video surveillance camera on your property can deter criminals from trying to commit crimes around or even in your home. Criminals are much less likely to try to commit a crime when they see that they're being watched and recorded; because these security systems can actually record crimes as they happen, they provide strong evidence for a conviction. Smart criminals know to simply stay away and not get into trouble on your property.
They can identify criminal activity
Your video surveillance systems can actually protect the immediate area surrounding your home, too. Even if you don't have crime occurring on (or inside) your property, security systems can record the immediate area surrounding your home and may catch "sight" of suspected criminals in the area. By showing your surveillance systems' recordings to police in given situations, you may even actually help solve crimes such as nearby break-ins.
They can show you who's there before you open your door
Although relatively low tech visibility options like peepholes will work, too, video security systems have several advantages over these low tech options. For one, you can keep a record of who knocks on your door, which can be useful if you're not at home. A second reason is that the surveillance systems often provide better visibility even at night as compared to old fashioned methods. And a third reason surveillance systems are an advantage over low tech options is that they can "see" further than old-fashioned methods. Install surveillance systems (including property perimeter cameras) in your home, and you'll see who visitors are, both welcome and unwelcome, long before they stand in front of your door.
What type of video surveillance systems' options should you choose?
When you're setting up video surveillance, determine how many cameras you want to get and what type they should be. If you decide you need only one camera, it will probably be installed toward the front of your home so that you can see who's coming just by a simple look at the screen.
For a more elaborate setup, choose a multiple camera setup; you may want the cameras to be able to give you facial details on people who are more than 25 feet away, in which case you need a camera with a larger lens, usually about an 8 mm.
In addition, you will probably want to use infrared cameras in your video security systems' setup. Infrared cameras take clear color pictures during the day, and then will switch to crisp black-and-white pictures using infrared for illumination at night.
